Company Intranets Keep Employees on the Same Page

If you want to share a document company-wide, do you e-mail it to everyone? Perhaps you make dozens of paper copies instead, giving one to each employee and filing the extras away. Or maybe you save a master in one of the various shared directories on your company network and hope that people will be able to find it.

Internet, Intranets and Extranets - What are all these nets?
By John Lefevre While most people today are familiar with the internet, when it comes to the words intranet and extranet confusion still exists. Despite Wikipedia claiming the first intranets began appearing in the early 1990s, they were in fact in existence earlier than this – though in most basic form and without the sexy look and functionality available today.
